I know a friend who flew Hartford to Italy...said it was about 13 hours.

It's about 11 hours. I used to fly from Boston to Madrid, and that was around 11 - 13 hours so from Pittsburgh to Barcelona it should be about the same timeframe.

Depends on which connection you take, but the shortest looks like 10 hours, 45 minutes outbound, and 11 hours, 46 minutes return. Both segments USAir via Philly.
